Gloriously Ordinary Sundays - 27th July 2025

Split-screen video call showing two people - one wearing a red top against a green background, and another with curly hair and glasses against a decorative tiled wall backdrop.

Once a month I chat with someone about Gloriously Ordinary Lives and how it resonates with them for the Gloriously Ordinary Sundays Podcast.

In episode 13 I chat with Beverley Samways from Unique Connections.

I recently came across the work of Unique Connections online, when exploring how I could help and support The Girl to live a gloriously ordinary life.

The Girl experienced significant trauma as a young child, and for all her Gloriously Ordinary time at school, things really came to a head when she left. For the past seven years she has been regularly hurting herself, often very badly. We've explored all sorts of ways of supporting her, and most recently have come to realise that how we are around her is hugely important. Then I came across the work that Beverley is doing and I really wanted to hop on a chat with her.

Beverley and I talk all about the importance and power of seeing the emotional person behind what we see as the ‘behaviour’, and how being truly present with someone can replace self-injury with connection and words.

* Trigger warning - we talk about self harm *
